leader/guide team: Staffed by accredited assessors, this is
an excellent opportunity to link in with other individuals and groups
to complete a qualifying or full practice journey. This team of highly
qualified instructors has many years of experience in helping young
people achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Award, IYA and other award scheme
goals.
This expedition is open to
participants from any school, organization or group.
It may be summarized as involving
an unaccompanied self-reliant journey in the countryside by the participant's
own physical effort and without motorized assistance. The venture must
present the participants with an appropriate challenge in terms of purpose
and achievement with the minimum of Leader (adult) intervention.
Expectations and
Safety
During the practical aspects
of the expedition section (practice and assessment), participants will
be in the care of PaddleAsia and their staff. To provide an adequate
safety system while allowing participants to fulfill the self reliance
aspect of the award requires a high degree of balanced risk assessment
taking many things into consideration including:

objective

• Physical/mental condition of participants
• Knowledge and experience of staff
• Attitude and actions of participants
If there is any uncertainty
about any of these issues, then the expedition or that part of the expedition
will be stopped until the situation is resolve.
We will provide safe
situations where participants can:
• Demonstrate activities
• Develop leadership skills (develop decision-making skills)
• Work as a team members (including recognizing the desires and
